We often think aloud. Think aloud when things are not going our way, when things are not working out, when we find the situation hopeless, beyond repair.
We think aloud when we see a ray of hope on the horizon, yet well out of our reach, when we are not sure we'll get there, when the end of the rainbow is within our reach yet so far.
We think aloud often.
This blog is me thinking aloud. A Goan.
A Goan filled with despair yet hope, with a sense of doom yet optimistic....

The fake currency racket – Goa police nexus

Two persons entered a casino at Calangute a few days ago to play on the roulette. The casino management detected 35 currency notes of the Rs. 500 denomination to be fake which were used by the two persons to purchase chips.
On being confronted by the security, the two persons ran away from the site and escaped in a car. Next day, a third person foolishly came to the same casino to enquire about the key left in the casino by the two persons the previous day.
The security at once pounced on him and alerted the police. They also found four fake currency notes of Rs. 500 denomination in his wallet. On interrogation, he took the police to the other two persons at Vasco. On searching their office, the police found Rs. 2.77 lakh worth fake currency notes.
So far so good.
The real twist in the tale came during the interrogation of the three. One of them reportedly was a “professional stock panch witness” for the Vasco Police Station. The fake currency notes were reportedly passed on to him by a serving police sub-inspector of this police station.
Newspaper reports reveal that some more police men are also suspected to be involved in this racket. The police sub-inspector Shri Vaibhav Naik has been arrested by the police, and further inquiries are reportedly handled by Calangute Police Station.
Surprisingly, the case is still handled by the Calangute Police Station even after the discovery of the involvement of police officers in the fake currency racket. One would have expected the CBI or RAW officers to step in considering the sensitivity of the case.
Another disturbing factor is the discovery of involvement of the Vasco police station. The Goa Police seem to be revealing on shock after another. First it was the sale of narcotics drugs to drug peddlers by the Anti-Narcotics Cell officers. And now the distribution of fake currency!
This does not give a rosy picture at all. Is this just the tip of the ice berg? In how many more crimes are the Goa Police involved in? We have to note that this fake currency racket has come to light because of the foolishness of one of the accused and not because of the investigative powers by the police.
